1. GENERAL
The Nigerian Army invites applications from suitably qualified Nigerians for the grant of Short Service Combatant Commission as officers into Nigeria Army .The Short Service Combatant Commission (SSC) offers excellent opportunities to young Nigerians who want to have an experience in the Nigerian Army without necessarily having to spend their entire career life in it. The SSC is open to male civilians or serving male military personnel.

 2. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 All civilians or serving military personnel must satisfy the following conditions.

 Be a Nigerian as defined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999.

Be a male between the age of 24 and 32 years at the commencement of cadet training
Possess at least a BA, BSc or HND in the science or humanities from any recognized institution.
Measure at least 1.66m in height.
Be medically and physically fit according to Nigerian Army physical efficiency standard.
Possess NYSC discharge certificate or a valid exemption as the case may be.
Possess valid birth certificate endorsed by the National Population Commission, hospital or local government council of birth or valid age declaration.
Possess a valid certificate of state of origin.
Must not have been convicted by any competent court of law.
Recommended by at least three recognizable referees who must attest to the applicant's character and integrity. Serving military personnel must be recommended by their commanding officer.
 3. SELECTION INTERVIEW

Candidates will be short listed for a selection interview in line with the federal character principle as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999. Invitation for the selection interview will be made through advert in some of the widely read national dailies indicating the place and duration of the exercise.

 4. TERMS AND CONDITION OF SERVICE

 Successful candidates after the selection interview will be required to undergo a 9 months intensive military training as cadet officers before they are granted the short service combatant commission .Below are the highlights of the terms and condition of service that will apply .

 a. Cadet Officers who successfully complete the military training shall be granted the rank of second lieutenant with 2 years seniority on the same rank (Period of training exclusive).

 b. Initial engagement shall be for a maximum period of 6 years renewable thereafter for a period of 4 years.

 c. Conversion to regular commission is not automatic. It is based on availability of vacancy and other criteria that are or will be in force.

 d. All graduating cadet officers must sign an acceptance of the terms and conditions governing the short service combatant commission before they are granted commission into the Nigerian Army.

 e. The reckonable period of service will be based on the date of commencement of cadet training of the civilian entrants while the military personnel will have their military service court.
